Lady Of The Night
This is an old piece from the 2000’s which for some reason did not make my anthology A Compendium of Little Mysteries. I gave it a very light edit and fixed some punctuation- hello apostrophe. I think it aged well, it should have been in the collection. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed brushing it off.
Lady Of The Night
Pale and pasty in day’s stark light,
Radiant in sun’s wake.
She dominates her domain,
Steals all attention
From uncounted stars.
The heavens dim in deference
To her glowing crown
When she floats
Across the stage of night.
She enchants
With her cyclic dance
As slowly she unveils
Her perfect cratered face.
Oceans rush at her whim,
She lures the seedling from the seed.
And wild dogs sing to her
Revered one of Pagan rite.
Beloved moon muse
Is this a love in vain?
Are you just another
Lady of the night?
